Peder's father's name was probably Arne, and he continued the Norwegian practice of taking his last name from his father's first name. This practice continued into the next generation, and Peder and Marthe's 6 children also used that format. Peder was born December 16, 1816 in Gruemoen,Grue kommune, Hedmark fylke, Norway. He married Marthe Olsdatter in Norway. All seven of their children were born there.
